QR Codes
A QR Code (Short for “Quick Response”) is a sort of intelligent bar code, like the ones you might see in the grocery and retail stores. Using a smart phone (iPhone, Blackberry, Android, etc...) equipped with a Bar Code scanner application (app), you could scan the QR code, which in turn could direct you to a specific website, You Tube video, map, email address, RSS feed or even a phone number. As you can see in this attachment, the QR code kind of looks like a mashed up puzzle.
To read a QR code, you will need an essential item..a smart phone equipped with a camera. In addition you will also need a QR Code application or "App" to translate the code your scanning. Look in your phones "App Store" for a “Bar Code Scanner”. They tend to be free and there is usually a selection of different ones to choose from. Some allow you to scan the more common traditional bar codes for the purposes of price comparison as well. Be careful NOT to download anything harmful.
Because there are so many different applications for the many different phones, you can search the Internet for "QR Code Reader". Once you have a scanner bar code app, create your own code and try reading it on your phone….or try reading this code and find out where it goes.
Though these QR codes have been around for a while, the popularity is on the rise, and you will likely start to notice them in stores, magazines, on advertisements, and all sorts of other creative places...
